Instructor's Guide
General Description of the
UWP and Its Mission
Welcome to the University Writing Program. As an instructor in the
UWP, you will be part of a university-wide effort to teach broad-based
communication skills to first-year students at the University of
Florida.
The UWP was established as an independent unit in order to cultivate
those skills that will help undergraduate students succeed academically
and professionally.
As our mission statement indicates, UWP courses are concerned with
the practical importance of communication in students' lives and with a
deeper understanding of how our arguments are shaped by our "writing
communities" or academic disciplines. As such, our courses aim to
provide a practical benefit to students.
In order to fulfill our obligation to undergraduates, the UWP must
also
be a place where teachers of composition thrive, one reason we place
such emphasis on faculty support and development.
