Last Day of Class
By the last day of the semester, you will need to have completed the course evaluations.
You will also need to tell your students how they can pick up copies of their final papers. You should never leave a box of papers for students to pick up. Doing so violates their grade confidentiality and can lead to plagiarism problems. If your students have not yet turned in their final assignments, make sure the instructions for doing so are clear. Even if you prefer to have students turn in hard copies of papers, it's a good idea to require electronic copies.
Your students will likely have questions about final grades, which they can access on ISIS the Monday after finals week. It is against university policy to email grades.
Most importantly, the last day provides you and your students with
the opportunity to summarize what they (and you) learned during the
semester. Although you may have explained your teaching philosophy and
pedagogy at the beginning of the semester and throughout, the students
may not be able to understand the larger goals of the course and the
writing process until the end of the semester. Your students may be
restless on the last day, but they genuinely appreciate knowing that
they learned something important.
